Do I need to install Microsoft CRM on a Server?

The answer is YES. There are two types of network environments in a business system: 'Peer-to-Peer' and Network Server. Microsoft CRM will only work in a Network Server environment.

What is a Server network?

A server is a machine that has Windows 'Server Operating System' installed on it.
A Windows Server Operating System can be 'Windows 2000 Server' or 'Windows 2003 Server'

So what is a Peer-to-Peer network then?

A peer-to-peer network is simply a network of several computers connected to one other cross-laterally. A Windows Server Operating System is not required for this type of networking. Peer-to-Peer is used in small companies with 10 or less users users. It is common to see a group of Windows XP machines networked using a peer-to-peer environment.

Can I upgrade my Peer-to-Peer network to a Server network environment?

Yes. You can simply acquire a 'Server Operating System' such as Windows 2003 Server. We can then convert your Peer-to-Peer network into a Windows Server (Network) environment.

My company size is less than 75 employees, which Server do I need to run Microsoft CRM?

If you are a business with 75 or less employees, you can use Windows Small Business Server Premium Edition. This will have all the components required to run the Microsoft CRM.

What if the number of my employees exceeds 75?

In this case, you will need to install Windows 2003 Server, SQL Server and Exchange Server.

My Company has Windows 2003 Server, but we have less than 75 employees. What are my options?

You can either use Microsoft CRM Professional Edition, which is a higher priced version, or you can switch to Windows 2003 Small Business Premium Edition. Our support staff can assist you in making that transition.

Why does Microsoft CRM Small Business Edition run only on Small Business Server?

As the name indicates, the Small Business Edition is designed to work optimally for smaller environment, The same is true for both Server and CRM. The limitation of Small Business Edition is 75 users.
